Deconstruction of a Music video: Krewella - Broken Record

I have decided to deconstruct a Music video to figure out what makes it successful and entertaining to watch. The music video that I have chosen to do is from one of my favorite groups Krewella and their music video from the song Broken Record.


The genre for the song is Electronic Hip hop so its mainly if not only electronic instruments being used to create the music.
Lets look at the Mise en Scene...
We can tell that the two people in the music video are the artists themselves by looking at what they're wearing and how they are shown throughout the music video.
They are shown in almost every shot together showing that they are a group artist usually standing/sitting next to each other. The pose they are both in at the start of the video is also a direct mirror image of there album cover further showing that its there work (image Right). They also have Tattoos of the group name (Krewella) on there bodies.
They are wearing dark clothing throughout the video mainly black which is the same as the background color during the versus, this makes the audience look at their faces more and them singing instead of being distracted by needless props or wardrobe errors. During the rises and chorus we get a red background produced by a red rave light through the windows which gives the impression of a club atmosphere in the morning after the party. The color red also shows anger or aggression which links with thew way that the song goes as it is quite aggressive.

Now the editing...
The music video is perfectly in time with the song in the background, this makes it flow really well and helps the audience make sense of it. So we mainly get cuts from scene to scene but sometimes we see an ellipsis when the scenes return every now and again from each other showing the singers almost singing at different times still in the same song.
We also have plenty of visual effects in play like scraps of paper almost showing two or more different scenes happening at the same time then fading between one and another. We also get a similar effect where it looks to be that someone has drawn the outline of the girls when their dancing this makes the image look distorted almost as if the audience is intoxicated.  
We get other effects such as an image of a record player on top of the already playing footage, it is an additional layer added on top of the music video that is faded so we can see the rest of the footage at the same time. The record player also links with the name of this song.

Camera work...

There are A LOT of camera shots in this video so its quite difficult to keep up with what's going on, but then again I think the reason why this is, is because its representing how disorientated or drunk you can feel at a club, so the audience could be argued to be put in the position of someone who has partied to hard. We get quite a few low angle shots on the duo making them look powerful and as if they are standing on stage singing at an audience. We also get a few silhouette shots of the two when their dancing to really show off the movement and the lighting.   
We get a few black and white shots when there isn't any dancing only singing and it just slows the pace of the video down and allows the audience to concentrate on the music.

And now the sound...

Well as a music video the only sound in the video is non diegetic sound coming from the sound which in my opinion is amazing but apart from that its just the song playing in the background sycing with the various cuts in the editing.
