Inspiration for music videos

Music videos I like and I will take inspiration from:





Grimes- Flesh without blood
Grimes has always taken a very different approach to her music, the style of this is always shown in a manor that is sometimes very different to other artists in the same genre. What tends to happen in her videos is she has different characters singing different parts of the song. The mise en scene is very strong here showing bold personalities through the environment the individuals are and what they are wearing. The costumes tend to all be out of a fairy tale in the music video for Flesh without blood. The editing is synchronized to the beat of the song much like most other music videos as it makes more sense to the audience and flows nicely. The reason that I really like this video is the wide variety of costumes and characters that you don't get anywhere else. I feel that most music videos feel restricted by the audience they are aiming at and the genre. This video is really out there and almost has no limits when it comes to creativity in the Mise en scene department. I hope to take some of this weirder creativity into my short film or music video.












Muse- Aftermath

When Muse normally do music videos they are usually lyric videos.
This means that the video's prime purpose is to tell the audience what the lyrics of the song are.
However this video is very different. It is animated with individual drawing being edited together to create a sequence. The entire video has very few cuts in it, most of the video is one cut that lasts over 3mins. During this time we see the man having dreams or thoughts which using ellipsis allows us to see his thoughts whilst still remaining in the same time period as we started. I really like the way the video tells the story and how it flow well considering that its individual drawings. The slow pace of the music videos editing allows the audience to listen to the music more whilst still keeping up with whats going on in the video. The songs slow beat helps with this. 














DJ Snake- Middle 
The last music video that I will use for inspiration will be DJ snakes Middle. I actually saw a behind the scenes clip for this which really gave me an insight into how a music video is made and produced. I saw a variety of equipment being used such as steady cams and cameras being mounted on the back of cars for moving shots.  The genre for the song used is electronic house so part of the song (rise) is shown in the sequence is shown with calmer shots with less going on however on the drop (chorus) the music increases in volume and more occurs inn the sequence and the editing speed increases. This helps the audience interact with the video and dance along as they feel like more is going on and if more is going on in the video then more should be going on in real life if that makes sense. The costumes used and the characters are based on want to be super hero's. The two main characters clearly have a connection wearing similar scrappy clothes and face paint to hide their identity's. In the end though this face paint is removes when one off them injures themselves whilst trying a super power. This shows the moral of the story which shows that everybody is human and that there is nothing to fear about being different.
