Evaluation question 1 (draft)

Evalutation Q1In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
When planning for the making of our media product we were researching different themes that we thought could inspire our product. This would include taking references from other texts and think about incorporating them into our text. For example we planned to use the backgrounds from famous cartoons such as the Simpsons’ living room and Family guys front room. We thought this would have been a good idea as some of our audience might see the reference and find it funny. When we were in the phase of pitching our product to our target audience our ideas changed a lot through the feedback that we got. The main feedback we got was people recommending ideas and locations for us to film. This was good as we got to see different peoples tastes so we able to expand our target audience from teenagers and to young adults. However we did get some feedback which would be completely against our music video such as the style we presented it in however due to most people liking our music video we challenged some of the negative views as we didn’t expect everyone to enjoy our music video. We used different tools to show off the genre I our music video to our audience. The camera angle for example is always eye level with the person/people sitting on the sofa and the camera never moves, it is always 90 degrees facing the front of the sofa straight on. This showed considerable consistency throughout the music video. This allowed the audience to concentrate on the environment behind the sofa and also the person sitting on it rather than gathering their bearings on what the camera might be focusing on.   I think my Ancillary tasks went really well. I think I captured the fun side of the music video with the cartoon style on both the Digipack and the poster. My audience also really liked my ancillary tasks saying that it really stood out from other designs with its bold shapes and bright colours. I took inspiration from my target audience. I wanted something that would provide nostalgia and character at the same. So I decided to go for a comic book/retro style for both of my ancillaries keeping the same design for both of them so it was obvious that both pieces came from the same music video.
The narrative for our main product was constantly changing as we had so many clips from different places with different people. There was no real story line as such just a load of different clips stuck together. To get any sort of meaning into the video we had to edit similar clips together so that they would make more sense.
